Our History

The Pennsylvania Section of the American Water Works Association (PA-AWWA) was established in October 1948 when Eastern and Western Pennsylvania joined to form a unified section. Guided by its vision of “A better world through better water” and its mission of “Providing solutions to effectively manage water, the world’s most important resource,” PA-AWWA works to enhance water management across Pennsylvania. Today, PA-AWWA has nearly 1,500 members and is governed by a Board of Directors. Councils, committees, and staff manage the technical, management, and educational programs, encouraging member participation.

Divided into six districts, PA-AWWA brings educational opportunities to members across the state. The Section’s annual spring conference offers technical sessions, networking opportunities, and showcases products and services for water professionals. Members stay informed through newsletters and updates on industry news and events. PA-AWWA membership is open to all interested in enhancing Pennsylvania’s public water supply. For more information, visit the membership page or contact our staff.
